Interaction of veratrol and paraform in subcritical water is studied and two macrocyclic compounds — cyclotriveratrilene and cyclotetraveratrilene (in 94 : 6 ratio) - are obtained. Their formation is proved using a series of analytical procedures, including mass-spectrometry with electrospray ionization (ESI-MS) and nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy. Also, the formation of trimercation-tetramer type adduct of the above macrocycles was detected by ESI-MS method.
