A method of subcritical water extraction (SCWE) of biologically active substances from Milk Thistle seed (Silybum marianum L.) that allows one to obtain aqueous extracts without use of organic solvents is suggested. The comparison of content of hepatoprotector-type biologically active substances (taxifolin, silychristin, silydianin and silybin) in the Milk Thistle seed extracts obtained by SCWE and by standardized liquid extraction procedures is carried out.
